Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 3 public beta version

Several years ago Adobe released, to rave reviews, Photoshop Lightroom a software program that allows you to quickly import, process, manage your photographs. Adobe Labs has recently made Photoshop Lightroom 3 available as a public beta version.  I downloaded it the other day and just started playing with it. So far it seems like a great alternative to Photoshop especially for everyday normal adjustement's to your photographs.  At first try it seems pretty easy to use. I have never used Lightroom but have always heard great things about it and have considered buying it since it firsts came out.  At a list price of $299 for Lightroom 2, it's also a WHOLE lot cheaper than Photoshop CS4 at $699 for the basic edition and $999 for the extended edition .
The website states that the beta version of Lightroom 3 is scheduled to expire on April 30, 2010. I'm going to guess that the official release of Version 3 will be shortly after that date.Version 2 of Lightroom is still available and can be purchased directly from Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/).
If you are intersted in downloading a beta copy of Lightroom 3 here is the link to the website: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom3/

Paella Pan outside Denia, Spain

Between Denia and Javea, Spain, there is a hillside that is covered with wild rosemary and ruins of old windmills. While walking around the area, we came across this house that had a Paella Pan leaning up against the outside wall.

California Sunbounce

California Sunbounce  is a manufacturer of outstanding photographic reflectors and other light enhancing products.  They have an amazing website that is jam packed full of videos and other educational resources. The videos feature Greg Gorman, Guido Karp, David Mecey, Rolando Gomez and others using the product. In addition to the videos, you can find a PDF of their product catalog along with full descriptions of all their products. It is probably one of the best photographic equipment websites I have seen. Their products are easy to use and should be part of every photographers lighting kit.

Charis Wilson, model, muse, and the last wife of Edward Weston, died recently at age 95. Last week, Ovation TV rebroadcast a special on her and Edward Weston called "The Eloquent Nude". It's a great program. Catch it if you can.

On November 25th, Kim Weston posted a very good article about her on his blog which is located at http://kimweston.blogspot.com/.

Spain is known for having a lot of festivals. This was shot during the Fiestas In Honour of the Holy Blood held in Denia, Spain, in early July 2009. On this particular night of the festival, people ran down the main street of Denia with fireworks blazing. The street was filled with wall-to-wall people and the fireworks started at about 12:30 am.

I could not resist putting this on the blog. My wife and I were on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado, last September 19th and there must have been over 100 people dressed up like Pirates. It was great fun.

Hal Gould :A Retrospective - Show at The RedLine Denver

Hal Gould: A Retrospective and Places Like Us,
a contemporary photography show ( Shown concurrently ) Click Here for the invite Feb 19th-March 28thReception: Thursday Feb 19th from 6-9pmMember's preview Feb 19th from 5-6pm

RedLine, an urban laboratory dedicated to supporting the Denver artist community, hosts a major retrospective of the work of pioneer photographer Hal Gould. Gould, now in his 90th year, has been a practicing photographer for more than 60 years and is the owner/operator of Denver’s celebrated Camera Obscura Gallery. The exhibition will feature more than 70 portraits, landscapes, and abstractions taken by Gould over the course of his remarkable career.

Also included are images made by Gould at one of Denver’s earliest commercial studios, The House of Photography. In recognition of his importance to Denver as a presenter and advocate of photography, the exhibition will feature a display of works by many of Camera Obscura’s most notable photographers. A biographical video about Gould produced by RedLine artist-in-residence Rori Knudston will also be shown. Hal Gould’s career as a fine art and commercial photographer is remarkable in its scope and influence. Dedicated to employing meticulous composition, perfect light, and advanced darkroom techniques, his belief in the fine print adheres to that of Ansel Adams, who once famously said that “the negative is the score and the print is the performance.” Gould’s career as an advocate of other people’s work dates back to 1963, when he and several others opened the Colorado Photographic Art Center, a non-profit organization that is still active in Denver. In 1980 he opened his own commercial space, The Camera Obscura Gallery. Since then he has presented more than 300 shows, introducing some of the world’s most celebrated photographers to Denver.

In the adjoining Community Gallery, “Places Like Us” – an exhibition of contemporary photography from Colorado and beyond – presents works by four contemporary photographers who share much of Gould’s subject matter. Landscape, people, and environment are interpreted in distinct yet complimentary styles, sharing a focus on beauty but diverging as the contemporary artists address environmental concerns. Both exhibitions are curated by Rupert Jenkins. Jenkins is an independent curator living in Denver, CO, where he also works as editor for the University of Denver’s Victoria H. Myhren Gallery.

The Byers-Evans House Gallery will host a companion exhibition entitled “Hal Gould: His Vision of the West.”. This exhibit will be shown February 6 – March 31, 2009. The Byers-Evans House Gallery is located at 1310 Bannock Street. Hours are 11 am - 3pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is free.
